The Kite Runner is a touching story between two boys. It reminded me of an ugly reality in our society- sexual assault - Amir is a boy from a rich family. He lacks character/courage. Hassan is poor, but has character and courage.  In this story one of these boys was victim of a sexual assault. He was raped by a group of teens. An indelible story- one that will stay with me for a long time.

WHAT'S THIS STORY ABOUT?

This is the story of two Afghani children of about 10-12 years old. Amir is from a rich family, and the other one, Hassan, lives in the rich man's house because his dad works there as servant. The two of them are like brothers, they play together, they love flying kites, and reading stories. One day the poor boy is raped by a gang of older boys, 12-15 years of age. His friend Amir, sees the horrible event from a distance, but he doesn't react, he doesnt do anything to defend his best freind. This story reminds me of the ugly reality of sexual assault in our society.  It is a fact that our society is a violent one, and we, the decent people need to do something to help stop/prevent these abuses, which cause a lifetime of pain, anguish and destruction of life (may lead to more abuse and suicides

At the bottom of this blog I have included images and graphics (info/facts) on sexual assaults and what we can do to help prevent/stop it.

This is how the author summarizes this story.
"This book is a New York Times bestseller and international classic loved by millions of readers. It is an unforgettable, heartbreaking story of the unlikely friendship between a wealthy boy and the son of his father’s servant, The Kite Runner is a beautifully crafted novel set in a country that is in the process of being destroyed. It is about the power of reading, the price of betrayal, and the possibility of redemption; and an exploration of the power of fathers over sons—their love, their sacrifices, their lies.

A sweeping story of family, love, and friendship told against the devastating backdrop of the history of Afghanistan over the last thirty years. The Kite Runner is an unusual and powerful novel that has become a beloved, one-of-a-kind classic.

 They loved to read.

They were good friends, but one day a terrible event (happening) happened that shattered (broke) their friendship/trust forever.
Hassan (left) and Amir, loved flying kites.

This below is a character chart. It shows the character/personality of the main characters (people) in this film (movie).

I have not read the book yet, but I saw the movie. This is a film that you can watch with your family (I think it is Rated PG13), friends and/or adult students. I have read Khaled Hosseini second novel, A Thousand Splendid Suns,  and it was also unforgettable. I can't wait to see it on the big screen (at the movies). It will be out sometime this year.

The author of Kite Runner, Khaled Hossein, while filming it.

The two main characters of the Kite Runner, Hassan (left, the kind, and courageous one), and Amir (right, the unsure and afraid one).

LET'S ALL WORK TOGETHER TO HELP AND PREVENT/STOP SEXUAL ASSAULT!
