PROTECT LIFE AT ALL LEVELS; the UNBORN, murders from GUN VIOLENCE, the DEATH PENALTY and NUCLEAR WAR.
A LETTER TO THE WHITE HOUSE TODAY, 2-24-17

Dear President Trump, VP Pence and First Lady Melania Trump, I agree with you that we mus protect human life, but I have to say that the Republican Party hasn't done enough to safeguard all human life. I am disappointed and saddened by your party's unwillingness to do more to protect; the unborn, and those who are already born! 33,000 of our fellow Americans get slaughtered every year by bullets- by gun violence. And many more are killed with the death penalty! That's not defending life but taking it! Only God has the right to give it and take it away, not the US government!

I regret to say that the Republican Party has refused to enact/support common sense laws, that control and prevent guns from reaching the wrong people, like criminals, the mentally unstable, immature/irresponsible people and terrorists. It saddens me that your party hasn't done anything to pass laws that protect human life against gun violence. In fact, the Republican Party supports the NRA.

Another thing that the Republican Party hasn't done- abolish the death penalty. This is a horrible way to administer justice- the US is one of the few countries in the world that uses this atrocious method. The people who are executed are usually poor, minorities, and sometimes some of them are also innocent!

The republican party wants to repeal/abolish the Obama Care, but yet it has no better plan to replace it! How can you support life if you get rid of this health care plan? People will be without protection and many will die! That's not supporting life.

Yesterday, President Trump announced that he wants to increase our nuclear arsenal. How will this protect human life? The US has almost 7,000nuclear warheads and Russia 7,000. These are enough to destroy our planet many times over! Why waste more billions to get more weapons? When we know that will not make us any more secure? Even former Soviet Union president, Mikhail Gorbachev, said recently (2-13-17 NY Times Magazine), and I quote:

"I think that the initiative to adopt such a resolution should come from Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin- the presidents of two nations that hold over 90% of the world’s nuclear arsenals and therefore bear a special responsibility.”

Mr. President, VP Pence, and First Lady; as a Christian, a husband, father of two, and retired veteran I beg you to work for peace, prosperity for all people, and to protection all human life- not just the unborn, and the destruction of the environment, but also work to abolish the death penalty and prevent a nuclear war.

WHAT IS THE 1ST AMENDMENT TO THE CONSTITUTION? Why do we need to know it? So that no one, not even a President, his cabinet, and/or his party can and take it away!

The First Amendment (Amendment I) to the United States Constitution prohibits the making of any law respecting an establishment of religion, ensuring that there is no prohibition on the free exercise of religion, abridging the freedom of speech, infringing on the freedom of the press, interfering with the right to peaceably assemble, or prohibiting the petitioning for a governmental redress of grievances. It was adopted on December 15, 1791, as one of the ten amendments that constitute the Bill of Rights.

Don't let this man and his cronies take away your rights!

The Bill of Rights was originally proposed to assuage Anti-Federalist opposition to Constitutional ratification. Initially, the First Amendment applied only to laws enacted by the Congress, and many of its provisions were interpreted more narrowly than they are today. Beginning with Gitlow v. New York (1925), the Supreme Court applied the First Amendment to states—a process known as incorporation—through the Due Process Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment.

In Everson v. Board of Education (1947), the Court drew on Thomas Jefferson's correspondence to call for "a wall of separation between church and State", though the precise boundary of this separation remains in dispute. Speech rights were expanded significantly in a series of 20th and 21st-century court decisions which protected various forms of political speech, anonymous speech, campaign financing, pornography, and school speech; these rulings also defined a series of exceptions to First Amendment protections. The Supreme Court overturned English common law precedent to increase the burden of proof for defamation and libel suits, most notably in New York Times Co. v. Sullivan (1964). Commercial speech, however, is less protected by the First Amendment than political speech, and is therefore subject to greater regulation.

The Free Press Clause protects publication of information and opinions, and applies to a wide variety of media. In Near v. Minnesota (1931) and New York Times v. United States (1971), the Supreme Court ruled that the First Amendment protected against prior restraint—pre-publication censorship—in almost all cases. The Petition Clause protects the right to petition all branches and agencies of government for action. In addition to the right of assembly guaranteed by this clause, the Court has also ruled that the amendment implicitly protects freedom of association.

At 85 Former Soviet Union President Mikhail Gorbachev is still Working toward a Nuclear Weapons Free World. The Leaders of the superpowers should heed his proposal.

On the occasion of President’s Day in the USA, I’d like to present part of an article that Mr. Gorbachev- the former President of the Soviet Union (now Russia)- has written in the New York Times magazine, and published in the February 13, 2017, issue. Although, he is not an American president, he is a great President who reserves recognition for his peace efforts.
In 1982 President Gorbachev and president Ronald Reagan signed a nuclear agreement in order to reduce the number of nuclear warheads of both the USA and Russia.
Today after more than 30 years, at age 85 former President  Gorbachev is still working toward this goal- avoid a nuclear war. Let me present his recent views about nuclear armaments, which were published a few weeks ago, in the February 13, 2017, edition of the NY Times magazine.

This is what he said, and I quote;
“The nuclear threat once again seems real. Relations between the great powers have been going from bad to worse for several years now. The advocates for arms buildup and the military-industrial complex are rubbing their hands.
We must break out of this situation. We need to resume political dialogue aimed at joint decisions and joint action.
There is a view that the dialogue should focus on fighting terrorism. This is indeed an important, urgent task. But as a core of a normal relationship and eventually partnership, it is not enough.
The focus should once again be preventing war, phasing out the arms race and reducing arsenals. The goal should be to agree not just on nuclear-weapons levels and ceilings but also on missile defense and strategic stability.
In the modern world, wars must be outlawed, because none of the global problems we are facing can be resolved by war- not poverty, the environment, migration, population growth or shortage of resources.
I urge the members of the U.N. Security Council- the body that bears primary responsibility for international peace and security- to take the first step. Specifically, I propose that a Security Council meeting at the level of heads of state adopt a resolution stating that nuclear war is unacceptable and must never be fought.
I think that the initiative to adopt such a resolution should come from Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin- the presidents of two nations that hold over 90% of the world’s nuclear arsenals and therefore bear a special responsibility.”

I hope and pray that President Trump will seriously consider Mr. Gorbachev proposal and lead and support such a resolution, which could result in reducing and eventually eliminating all nuclear weapons and the threat of a nuclear war. I believe that this task would be the most important step toward peace and security.

TRUMP SHOULD BE REMOVED FROM OFFICE BECAUSE OF HIS INCOMPETENCE, INSTABILITY and INABILITY TO DO HIS JOB, TO EXECUTE THE POWERS/DUTIES OF HIS OFFICE.  (Letter to the Albany Times Union (NY) & Politicians in Washington; Senator Schumer, Gillibrand, and Congressman Tonko. By Ottavio Lo Piccolo, 2-6-17)

I regret writing this letter, but in over 40 years as a naturalized US citizen, a husband, a father of two, a teacher, and retired US veteran; I have never seen US President cause so much damage and frustration in our country and the world. I am very worried about the future of America. It has been no more than two weeks of his presidency, and President Trump has already caused havoc to the USA and the world. At this point Congress should strongly consider removing him from office.

I believe that Mr. Trump is not mentally fit for this position. He should be discharged of his duties ASAP, because he could bring more harm to America and the world. In addition, the 25th Amendment of the Constitution was created for this reason- to fill the office of the president in case of his death, and/or to replace him, in case of his inability to carry out his powers and duties of his office.

These are reasons why he must go. The first one is his behavior; it is erratic (unpredictable and unreliable). He has already upsets enough world leaders with his arrogant and disrespectful manners by making unrealistic and unjust demands. The second reason is that has no respect and/or knowledge of the US constitution, and the fact, that over 1,000 US diplomats (shortly after his ban) signed a statement disagreeing with it, shows us his level of arrogance and incompetence. Hence, President Trump has no respect for our justice system, and our judges. The third reason is his incompetence in politics- he is not able of doing his job. The fourth reason is the fact that he does not trust anyone; he despises the media, thinking that they are all corrupt liars. Trump doesn’t even trust the institutions that help him carry out his duties as president; like the CIA, FBI, and other government agencies who give him essential information, so that he can make sensible/intelligent decisions! Fifth, Trump has recently offended Australia and our European allies, and almost the whole world! Except of course his buddy Vladimir Putin!
Sixth, he lacks respect for all people, for truth and/or facts. And seventh, he hasn't divested himself from his business.

Furthermore, Mr. Trump has not kept his promise to be everyone’s president, because his only objectives have been banning Muslims from America, imposing to build a foolish wall on the Mexican border, ridiculing everyone who justly disagrees with him, and disrespecting world leaders, and our laws. In fact, he has not only shown contempt for our laws, the US constitution, but he has also insulted our institutions and our people, from all walks of life. He has humiliated politicians, leaders of the world, journalists, immigrants, veterans and women. We all know how he hates the media, and often lashes out at reporters when he is contradicted with facts.

Mr. Trump has proven to be impulsive, egotistical and insensitive. He is incapable of restraining and/or controlling his emotions- hence incapable and unfit to lead America, because he is blinded by his ego and hate for people, especially those in need like immigrants. Decent/reasonable people know that most refugees are running away from war, famine and persecution.  However, because of his contempt and his lack of compassion, he recently approved a ban for 7 majority Muslim nations. His explanation was making America safer. However, informed/reasonable/respectable people know that banning Muslims will not solve the terrorist issue. It is not true that most of Muslims pose terrorist threat. In fact, FBI statistics tell us that only 5% of all violence is perpetrated by Islamic terrorists; the rest, 95% is committed by WHITE SUPREMACISTS!

As we have seen, his actions, attitude and words are not making America Great Again, as he promised. Instead, America is now the laughing stock of the entire world! His arrogant and foolish actions have created nothing but confusion, chaos, and disdain from people in our own government!

Trump is a threat to our democratic values of decency, compassion and justice. He will make our world more unstable and insecure! He is an arrogant lunatic who listens only to other lunatics. He get upset at insignificant events like TV shows and spends more time and energy writing twits than informing himself and learning/acting more like a president and leading this nation!

He has surrounded himself with people who are incompetent and racist individuals. He is also dishonest because he has not shown his tax returns like all other presidents before him. What does he have to hide?

I hope and pray that you and the Congress act quickly and force him out, with the 25th Amendment to the Constitution. No need to impeach- just get him out ASAP, on the basis of incompetence before he causes further damage to the USA and the world!
Thank you.
Ottavio Lo Piccolo.

CARTOONS are funny, but sometimes they show SHOW A SAD REALITY. THE REMEDY IS TO REMOVE TRUMP FROM POWER! HE IS A LUNATIC! HE MUST GO!
Let's denounce his injustice, bigotry, racism, fascism, intolerance, discrimination, dishonesty, deceit and ignorance.

"The Founding Fathers enshrined a separation of powers in our Constitution so that there would be inherent checks and balances to avoid a situation where a president could become a king. After all, the Founders had just risked life and limb rebelling against the King of England.
Trump's concerted attacks to de-legitimize our media, our intelligence community and now our federal judiciary would have no doubt alarmed them. And it should be terrifying to every American who truly believes in our Constitution and in the promise of America."
