Tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. - A man to Imitate / Un'Uomo da Imitare

On Wednesday January 7, 2015, a day after the bestial terrorist attack at the French satirical newspaper, Charlie Hebdo, I gave my students the following three questions;
1. Is violence acceptable? 
2. Do you think that violence is a good way to solve problems? 
3. What can we do to stop/avoid it? 

I was happy that all of my students agreed that violence is never acceptable, and that there are better ways to solve problems. I believe that answers can also be found in these images. In fact, I also hope, that in time of crisis, we will remember Dr. King's values. Especially at this time, in which we face worldwide terrorist threats, and here in the USA, we have some police forces that sometimes abuse their powers, and at times some of them use violent methods/responses toward blacks and minorities.

Let us use love, cooperation and tolerance instead. That is what Dr. King would tell us today if he were here. 




Let us work for a better world built on tolerance, respect of all religious/political ideologies (those that have everyone's good as a final objective), and respect for all life and our planet. Let us boycott violence, and hate. Let's use love, cooperation and tolerance instead. 
Let us boycott violence, and condemn it, because any form of abuse and/or violence is like planting the seeds of hate, provocation, pain, suffering and destruction. The only result from violence and abuse is more violence and more suffering..

Mercoledi passato (il 7-1-15), dopo l'attacco terrroristico bestiale al giornale satirico Charlie Hebdo, di Parigi, ho assegnato le seguenti 3 domande ai miei studenti adulti d'inglese. 
1. La violenza e' una cosa accettabile? 
2. La violenza e' un buon metodo per risolvere i problemi?  
3. Cosa possiamo fare per fermarla, o ostacolarla? 
Tutti i miei studenti, che sono emigranti da tanti paesi del mondo (inclusi alcuni mossulamni), hanno detto che la violenza non e' mai accettabile e che ci sono modi migliori (alla violenza) per risolvere problemi. Comunque, io credo anche che le risposte le troveremo qui in queste immagini e dichiarazioni di Martin Luther King Jr. Penso che se vogliamo la pace, tutti dobbiamo lavorare per raggiungerla. Tutti dobbiamo fare qualcosa. Allora lasciamo perdere l'odio e gli abusi perche' queste cose creano ancor piu' violenza.

Spero' che in tempi di crisi, come oggi, ci ricorderemo delle sue parole, del suo esempio di vita, e dei suoi valori. Oggi, specialmente in tanti paesi Europei, e la nostra l'Italia, i tempi sono molto difficili, sono violenti con terroristi pronti a colpire, gente senza lavoro, famiglie che non arrivano a fine mese, fabriche che chiudono. E qui, negli USA, ora che l'economia e' gia' da tempo in fase di recupero, ci sono sempre tante ingiustizie. Di questi tempi la polizia commette abusi di potere, e usa troppa forza e violenza, contro i neri e le minoranze (come poveri e emigranti)- i deboli.Cosa direbbe Dr. Martin Luther King se oggi fosse ancora qui con noi? Scenderebbe in piazza per protestare pacificamente, ecco cos afarebbe! Allora, seguimo il suo esempio, uniamoci in pace e nel rispetto, lavoriamo/lottiamo pacificamente per un'Italia, un'America, e un mondo migliore. Un mondo costruito sulla tolleranza e il rispetto di tutte le ideologie religiose e politiche, che abbiano come fine il bene comune, il bene di tutti, il rispetto della vita e del pianeta. Boicottiamo, lasciamo perdere la violenza e l'odio- mettiamo in atto l'amore, la cooperazione, e la tolleranza. Ecco cosa ci direbbe Martin Luther King, Jr. oggi a noi Italiani, Americani e a tutto il mondo.
